First cohort admitted in March 2021.

Nelson Mandela University's medical school at the Missionvale campus in Gqeberha admitted its first MBChB cohort in March 2021 and offers a six-year, primary-health-care-oriented degree. Years 1-3 cover basic medical sciences with community placements, years 4-5 are clinical rotations in Nelson Mandela Bay hospitals, and year 6 is a student-intern year. Only South African nationals are considered at present.
