The University of Bern's Faculty of Medicine teaches human medicine as a six-year federally regulated programme split into a Bachelor of Medicine (years 1-3) and a Master of Medicine (years 4-6), both taught in German and starting in the autumn semester. Entry is restricted by numerus clausus and an aptitude test; graduates must then pass the Swiss federal examination in human medicine.
