The University of Costa Rica's School of Medicine offers the Bachillerato en Ciencias Médicas and Licenciatura en Medicina y Cirugía, after which graduates are general physicians. Entry is through the university admission exam with a yearly cut-off score for 110 places; the sixth and final year is a compulsory hospital internship.
